AI-Powered Software Development
External Development Wing · EDW-AI1
A practitioner-grade course on building production software with AI coding tools. Eight modules covering prompt architecture, codebase navigation, test-driven AI development, refactoring, security review, deployment, and team workflows.
AI-Powered Software Development is the inaugural course of the External Development Wing. It is built for working engineers, technical leads, and engineering managers who want to integrate AI coding tools into real production workflows.
The course assumes proficiency in at least one programming language and basic Git. It does not assume prior experience with AI tools. Over eight modules, learners move from foundational prompt architecture through to team-level workflows: how to structure a codebase for AI legibility, how to write tests that catch AI errors, how to review AI-generated code for security and correctness, and how to deploy AI-assisted work to production safely.
The course is delivered through the CAS learning platform — the same infrastructure used for civil-service training — but the curriculum, pedagogy, and pricing are commercial. Cohorts are capped at 30 learners. Each module includes a hands-on lab, a code review exercise, and a written reflection. The final deliverable is a production-grade feature shipped to a real (or sandbox) codebase, reviewed against a published rubric.
This course exists to demonstrate the EDW model: commercial training delivered with institutional rigour, generating revenue that cross-subsidises the CAS's public-service mission.
